in all honesty, i feel that NS is a waste of time, money, and it affects the skills of men (especially in the IT line) to falter.
then again, i cannot begrudge the usefulness and propaganda that this idea of NS means. safety and security are all the things people really need. lets be honest. we are SURROUNDED by potential hostiles.
true, we have the best flyboys and a decent navy, but then things get into the thick of it, i guess it falls to the men themselves. i have heard this before a million times, and yes, i feel that a certain experience has changed my perception a little.
MAY CONTAIN EXPLICIT WORDS.
"wa lau, why do we have to serve NS? singapore so Fucked up one!"
"dammit, u just think la! what are we fighting for? for our country ar? no la! imagine this. enemy come and attack, they comerape your sisters and girlfriends, u want ah!?"
i have to admit, the guys have a point. however, i have to be honest here. can we really repel an invasion? logistically speaking, we have our forces all divided in several countries, and i think the defence plan should be to strike tactically at a weak point of an enemy first. capture leaders or something like that.
if that fails, then will be the long hard slugging-it-out war. AND i guess the objective is not to push back, its to HOLD ON until other forces arrive. most probably allies or such, or the US coming in and saying " this place is terrorist infested!!"
what NS stands for is to present a token force of resistance, and show others that we will make them pay for it in blood, but can we?
