all right man, its been a boring holiday for me... working all the way... but no more! finally during the last week of holidays im free... so... im going to chill. going camping with the guys tomorrow...

as of today, i went to indochine's new restaurant, the forbidden city. not bad indeed. it was the world gourmet meet, and there were many famous chef's, like chef wee, who is the best chef in the SEA region. there were many others too, some i dont know, but i have seen them on discovery travel and living. there were also representitivies from many hotels in singapore, like orchard hotel, the Grand hyatt, hilton, shangri-la and such. collected quite a few brocures, might wanna bring my dates there. it was held by american express too... so yeah... had to pay quite a bit just to enter. nearly $200. but its an eye opener, being there @ a gala premier, a world gourmet summit.. quite alotta pretty ladies there too..

hmmm the food ranged from japanese to indian, chinese to greek, indoneasian to french. caviar, wine and chocolates flowed freely!

lets start with the food i tasted there.... going by order of which i took first... haha =P

first was the red wine. special deep red, like the color of blood. there was a mild oak taste, and it was not acidic nor rough. indeed, it was a fine wine, but guess what? it was a merlot!! this is not something i expect from merlot, to have such balance and taste... surprising indeed. 7.8/10

i skipped the indian cusine, too spicy for me, and i jumped on right to the caviar with roasted duck, served on a base of french toast. wonderful. just wonderful. the caviar was so fresh, and the eggs just seemed to melt in my mouth, with the occasional popping, spilling the fresh yolk in my mouth... and also blending with the taste of roast duck, which i have to say, was absolutely fresh. the ducK was exquisite, roasted with blends of spices, in greek style. excellent. 8.6/10

the roast beef on toast also deserves special reccomendations, the beef was soft and tender, surprising, as it was from a hard cut. must have been slowly tenderised for god-knows-how-long. with the bread, they complement each other, soft beef... with crisp toast.... ooooh... just stumptious 8/10

then i walked around, spying the side of roast beef again, but this time, served with onion refresher. it was in kebab style, medium rare, with capsicun and button mushrooms... it was fantastic. 7/10

next however, was the cheese chicken kebabs and the crisp flakes. the flakes were bedecked in a whole range of toppings, like tomato, to herbs, and cheese...and they were like a sort of crackers, crunchy and tantilising to the tastebuds. the chicken however, was the main delight, and, as the name suggests, is wonderful. chichen on a kebab, roasted, served with origano herbs and spices on a stick. seriously, it was my favourite item of the day. 8/10

then i went up to the second floor, to madame butterfly's, grabbing a flute of white ice wine, and boy oh boy. the BEST wine i have ever had. besides the pinot noir @ aunt florence's. perfect balance of taste, not too rich, not too acidic, the odour was not too strong, and it matched perfectly with the food that was served in general today. the person who has that wine ordered and served is a genius i tell ya. HIGHLY reccomend this @ Saint Julien, Le restaurant. 9.3/10

then came the prawn and yam in a mini bowl, which was not bad, but lacked in presentation. 5/10

the norwegian hilot though, was superb. its fish, something i dont eat at all, but when i took a bite for taste, i could resist no more. soft, succulent flesh, along with the sweet and sour sauce... godly.... sometimes, i wish i had a chef who has the skills of these master chefs. 7.8/10

there was dessert, some chinese herb thingy that i didnt like, as it was with dangui, a herbal supplement. yecks. in jelly form. nice way of finding new uses for old tools, but, sad to say, wrong choice. 1.5/10

just nx to the chinese store was a otah booth. fresh, tasty, but i felt it was kinda out of place when compared to what the rest were serving. 4/10

then was the fresh salmon with white cream and mint. wow. flame grilled right in front of our faces with a burner. i give full marks for leaving an impression, as well as presentation. the salmon was creamy, an effect of the sauce, and it seemed to melt in my mouth... another excellent dish. 6.6/10

then came the roasted leg of lamb, served with special mushroom, diced and mixed with olives and pepper. i say the legof lamb was only so so, but the sauce rocks. i loved the sauce more than the lamb xD 6.9/10

ahhhh now comes the cream of lobster soup, served in an exqusite glass, at first i thought it was a drink, but heh. looks can be deciving indeed. rich, creamy, packs a punch. i loved it! i reccomend this @ Au Petit Salut, a french restaurant in singapore, blk 44 jalan merah saga, #01-54 this is the same shop which serves the lamb stated above. [Signature item] 8.2/10

then came the sake, and tempura. with shitatake mushrooms and fungi, which blends very well indeed. a testement to the perfection that all japanese chefs strive to attain. 8/10

the sake was lacking in terms of sweetness though. smooth, well blended, and sastisfying but ultimately lacking. 4/10

then cmae bouts of wine, both white and red, 5 glasses of diffenrent wine, but the only 2 who deserve commendations are the ones from st. bleufors and a special shiraq. name unknown/forgotten 8/10. then came the bout of socialisation... the usual "hey long time no see!! how are you doing!!" bleah.

beautiful ladies abound, and i wonder if attending these functions often influence my actual taste in women... classy, intelligent, and has that aura that makes u just attracted to her.

afta that, went to liang court, found a kinokuniya, found more japanese artbooks, and im resolved to buying them. =P

then im off to camp tomorrow. hahaha! irony... good food today, crap ass stuff tomorrow. probbie going to ubin n crash... buying some canned food, noodles, canned tuna etc etc for tomorrow... and gotta wake early.. haha. been a long time since i had fun. too long... too long. all right, gotta go already, need the rest for tomorrow... CiaO!

oooh yeah! a qoute i heard today from someone i dont know @ the Summit.

" Men are like fine wine. They start out as grapes, and it's up to the women to stomp the crap out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with. "

oh man, the world these days. life, in terms of food =D
